Have you seen the recent movie commercial about how cinemas close down due to piracy and a son was asking his father what is a cinema?
Nowadays there are very few "card shops" with playing space anymore. Even a shop that only sells trading cards do not usually provide space for its customers to play. In fact except for certain hard to access areas, most card shops do not provide a playing space to play.. so where do Card players go? Fast food outlets.. void decks or just sit on the floor somewhere near by.
A lot of the card shops are also sidelining other stuff and not just cards, food/drink/ps 3 games/rental comics/phone cards/toys/stationary and many more. Simply put , selling just trading cards alone cannot survive. A few shops that i know of have moved/closed shop. Surprise surprise these are the ones that provide playing spaces for people to play, well since normally the ones that don't are just sidelining cards anyway..
Let's get to the gist of the subject, most players don't appreciate card shops (well they sometimes do when it's gone) If the shop sells cards too cheap, they laugh at them when they buy from the shop.. if it sells them too expensively, then well its a rip off. Have they ever stop to think that just by giving players a place to play and meet up the shop is providing an invaluable service?
Supporting your shop need not mean you buy their singles if its too expensive, you can buy boosters, blisters if you feel paranoid... sleeves, or just buy snacks or drinks or something.. every little bit helps, do you see the need to travel to another place just to save a few bucks? why not support your local shop. (god knows it needs your help, unless it's comics connections .. hmm)
Why do i know the shop needs your help? Because hehe i am a shop owner myself, the cost of rental utilites have gone up over the years, and i hope you are not so naive that you think rent is cheap in singapore.. You now have my permission to go and support your local card shop.. LOL
